Waiting

It had all gone wrong. Ever since their arrival it was always the same. They were only children, just six children, but somehow they were defeating him time and time again. They had freed his slaves, emptied his prisons and destroyed his fortresses. Then there was the way it affected him physically. Their last meeting had resulted in another trip to the void, a vast and empty nothingness, without substance, and where he barely existed, only there as pure consciousness with no tangible form.

Monty Burns sat in the back row, feeling foolish in the ruffled dress
shirt he had promised to wear. Really, though, it was all the crying
made him the most uncomfortable.

He had to admit, though. The bride looked beautiful in her pure white
gown, and Waylon Smithers looked rather dashing as well, in his
rented tux. His faithful assistant looked so happy, to be standing up
there, repeating those vows that Burns had decided years ago were
both frivolous and downright doltish.

After the ceremony, Burns had followed the other guests to the
reception just outside the church. He tried taking another seat in
the back, but Smithers pulled him forward.

This is my boss. Smithers said, motioning to him. His new wife
stood there, beaming at him.

The next night I spent about an hour getting ready, longer than I ever had before, and this wasnt even including the time I put into choosing an outfit and accessories the night before. mansion. He knocked on the door and waited.

Monty will be down in a moment. He said.

course, I can’t let this slide unnoticed. You’ll get a 40 pay cut
until you can prove you deserve full pay. Now off with you. Burns
motioned vaguely with one hand, and Reginald muttered ‘Yes, sir’ and
scurried off.

Perfected porcelain faces gazed down upon me from my pristine oak shelves, their many eyes wide and painted with judgment. My dog, Hercules, stared at me more with alarm than judgment, but with disapproval nonetheless. The eyes of my best friend expelled no change in their vacuity whatsoever, and my eyes matched this indifference. Mr. Burns didnt care about me, and therefore, I didnt care about myself. In fact, I rather hated myself, which made my decision that much simpler.
